Egypt’s Minister of Labor, Hassan Raddad, recently announced a remarkable increase in the country’s workforce, which now stands at 35.4 million citizens. This figure marks a substantial rise from approximately 27 million a decade ago, reflecting an impressive growth rate of over 31%. This expansion results from national projects, increased private sector employment, and the opening of new markets for Egyptian labor abroad, showcasing the government’s commitment to strengthening the Egyptian economy.
Raddad emphasized that the progress in employment stems from a holistic vision adopted by the state. This vision prioritizes productive work as a key tool for comprehensive development. He highlighted the importance of continuing vocational training programs, aligning education with labor market needs, and expanding job opportunities for youth both domestically and internationally. Additionally, the integration of individuals with disabilities into the workforce remains a crucial focus.
The Minister explained that the government has created approximately one million job opportunities annually through public and private investments and national projects over recent years. This initiative has significantly reduced unemployment rates. Looking ahead, the government aims to transition from annual results to a sustainable employment system based on scientific planning that links job creation to economic growth.
The National Employment Strategy 2030, launched during the Labor Day celebrations in 2026, aligns with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives and collaborates with the International Labor Organization and production stakeholders. This strategy aims to establish a more efficient and equitable labor market by directing investments toward labor-intensive sectors, enhancing technical education and vocational training, and modernizing employment services.
The strategy seeks to generate 1.4 million job opportunities annually until 2030, increase employment rates, and bolster jobs in the manufacturing sector. Furthermore, it aims to reduce the percentage of informal employment, serving as a national roadmap to transition from merely providing jobs to ensuring sustainable employment and improving work quality.
