The Defense Minister meets with the UN Deputy Envoy in Aden to discuss regional security and cooperation efforts.

Defense Minister Meets UN Special Envoy in Aden

On Wednesday, October 30, Defense Minister Lieutenant General Mohsen Al-Daari met with the Deputy Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General, Serhad Fattah, along with his accompanying delegation in the capital city of Aden.

Discussion on Yemen’s Current Situation

During their meeting, Al-Daari and Fattah discussed the latest developments in Yemen, focusing on the ongoing attacks by the Houthi militia on commercial ships and international shipping routes. These attacks have raised significant concerns amid the evolving regional situation.

Addressing the Issue of Detainees

The conversation also highlighted the plight of detainees held by the Houthi militia. Al-Daari reiterated the government’s commitment to a “prisoner exchange for all,” a process that the Houthi militia continues to obstruct. The Defense Minister emphasized the urgent need for the release of all captives.

Government’s Stance on Peace Efforts

Al-Daari pointed out the government’s positive engagement with regional and international efforts aimed at achieving peace. However, he criticized the Houthi militia for consistently violating agreements and treaties shortly after their signing. He noted that this behavior mirrors the Iranian regime’s tactics of deception and breach of trust.

The meeting underscores the ongoing challenges in Yemen, particularly regarding security and humanitarian issues. The Defense Minister’s remarks reflect the government’s dedication to peace, despite the Houthi militia’s disruptive actions.
