Yemen and India Strengthen Defense Cooperation

Bengaluru Meeting Highlights Historical Ties

Today, Yemen’s Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Mohsen Al-Daari, met with India’s Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh, in Bengaluru. The two leaders discussed ways to enhance mutual cooperation between their countries, emphasizing the importance of their longstanding historical relationship.

Acknowledging Support for Yemen

During the meeting, Minister Al-Daari praised India for its support in training Yemeni personnel. He highlighted India’s role in developing the skills and capabilities of Yemeni experts, particularly in medical and military fields. Furthermore, he acknowledged India’s assistance in providing essential medical services to injured members of the Yemeni armed forces.

Addressing Regional Security Concerns

Al-Daari raised concerns about the threat posed by the Houthi militia to maritime navigation in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden. He stressed the need for international support for the Yemeni government and armed forces to assert their sovereignty and secure global trade routes and maritime safety.

Commitment to Strengthening Ties

In response, Minister Singh reaffirmed the strong relationship between Yemen and India. He expressed India’s commitment to developing joint cooperation that benefits both nations. This partnership aims to enhance security and stability in the region.

The discussions mark a significant step towards reinforcing the collaborative efforts between Yemen and India, focusing on defense, security, and mutual support.
