Meeting Overview
Today, Minister of Defense Major General Dr. Mohsen Al-Daari met with British Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, to discuss the latest developments in security and military conditions. The two officials explored ways to enhance cooperation in training and capacity building.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
During the meeting, Minister Al-Daari emphasized the deep-rooted relationships between Yemen and the United Kingdom across various sectors, particularly in defense and security. He highlighted the importance of bolstering the Yemeni Navy and Coast Guard with necessary equipment and technology. This enhancement aims to improve their capabilities in combating smuggling and protecting Yemen’s extensive coastlines.
Concerns Over Iranian Arms Smuggling
Al-Daari also addressed ongoing concerns regarding Iranian support for the Houthi militia. He pointed out recent incidents, including a shipment of weapons and drones intercepted at Aden Port. This operation involved the Coast Guard, the Counter-Terrorism Unit, and various security and military agencies, along with the Public Prosecution and Customs Authority. Additionally, he mentioned another shipment seized by the National Resistance.
British Support for Yemen
In response, Ambassador Sharif reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to supporting Yemen and its leadership, represented by the Presidential Leadership Council and the government. She expressed her country’s dedication to helping achieve security and stability in the region.

The meeting also included British Military Attaché Colonel Jonathan Frame, who contributed to the discussions on military cooperation.
