Strengthening Yemen-Germany Development Cooperation

Berlin Meeting Focuses on Economic and Humanitarian Support

Today, in Berlin, Dr. Afrah Al-Zuba, Yemen’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, met with Alexander Ridwan, the Head of German-Arab Parliamentary Relations. The discussion centered on enhancing development cooperation between Yemen and Germany, as well as the current situation in Yemen.

Acknowledging Germany’s Support

During the meeting, which also included Yemen’s Ambassador to Germany, Louay Al-Aryani, Minister Al-Zuba expressed gratitude for Germany’s ongoing support. She emphasized that the partnership with Germany serves as a crucial foundation for Yemen’s development efforts, economic recovery, and humanitarian improvement.

Addressing Yemen’s Challenges

Minister Al-Zuba provided an overview of the economic and developmental challenges facing Yemen. She highlighted the destruction of infrastructure caused by the ongoing conflict and the decline in development indicators. Additionally, she discussed the government’s efforts to implement reforms, enhance services, and promote economic and institutional stability.

Building on Historical Ties

The Minister stressed the importance of building on the historically strong relationship between Yemen and Germany. She praised the developmental projects Germany has undertaken in Yemen over the decades, particularly in infrastructure and sustainable development. Al-Zuba expressed the government’s desire to expand areas of cooperation and restore previous levels of developmental support to meet current needs.

Commitment to Continued Collaboration

In response, Alexander Ridwan reaffirmed the German Parliament’s commitment to monitoring developments in Yemen. He underscored the importance of ongoing collaboration with the Yemeni government and supporting efforts aimed at achieving stability and development. Ridwan also highlighted the potential for strengthening partnerships between the two countries across various areas of mutual interest.

This meeting marks a significant step in reinforcing Yemen-Germany relations, focusing on shared goals of stability and development in the region.
