In a recent meeting, the Chief of General Staff and Joint Operations Commander, Lieutenant General Sagheer bin Aziz, engaged with Freya Radi, the head of operations for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Yemen. The discussion focused on humanitarian interventions and the ICRC’s efforts concerning prisoners and detainees.
During the meeting, Lieutenant General bin Aziz highlighted the serious crimes and violations committed by Houthi militias against the Yemeni people. He condemned the recruitment of children by these militias and their use of landmines and explosives, which indiscriminately target innocent civilians. Furthermore, he brought attention to the torture and oppression faced by detainees held by the militias.
The Chief of Staff reaffirmed the Yemeni Armed Forces’ commitment to international humanitarian law, as well as local and international regulations. He expressed the Ministry of Defense’s and the General Staff’s readiness to collaborate with the Red Cross to facilitate its humanitarian work. Bin Aziz also voiced hope that international organizations would take a firm stance against Houthi militias to halt their ongoing violations and crimes against the Yemeni population.
The meeting underscores the importance of humanitarian efforts in Yemen amidst ongoing conflict and highlights the need for international support to address the grave situation facing civilians.
