Today, the Chief of General Staff and Commander of Joint Operations, Lieutenant General Sager bin Aziz, met with Egyptian Military Attaché, Brigadier General Samer Shaaban, to explore aspects of bilateral military and security cooperation, including maritime security.
During the meeting, attendees discussed local and regional developments, particularly the escalation of threats posed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia in the Red and Arabian Seas, as well as the Gulf of Aden. The ongoing threats to global maritime navigation were a focal point, prompting discussions on enhancing collaboration to address these security challenges. The leaders emphasized the importance of joint efforts to ensure the safety of maritime traffic.
Lieutenant General Aziz praised Egypt’s steadfast support for Yemen, highlighting its assistance to the Yemeni Armed Forces across various stages and levels. He expressed hope for continued Egyptian support to enhance the capabilities of the Yemeni military. This includes improvements in training, technical skills, and operational coordination with naval forces and coastal defense units. Such collaboration aims to protect Yemeni waters and shores while contributing to regional and global security, combating terrorism, and addressing smuggling crimes.
The meeting included the presence of Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Halisi, Assistant Chief of Operations, and Brigadier General Yahya Al-Wail, the military attaché at the Yemeni embassy in Riyadh.
