President Alimi Welcomes U.S. Ambassador Stephen Fagin in Aden

Aden, Yemen – On Monday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with U.S. Ambassador Stephen Fagin to discuss key issues affecting Yemen and U.S.-Yemen relations.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During their meeting, both leaders focused on enhancing and developing the bilateral relationship between the United States and Yemen. They addressed the latest developments in the eastern provinces, emphasizing the need for American support in government reform efforts. Additionally, they discussed ongoing coordination in combating terrorism and deterring Houthi militias and Iranian-linked terrorist organizations.

U.S. Support Acknowledged

President Alimi praised the United States for its firm stance alongside Yemen. He highlighted the U.S. designation of Houthi militias as a foreign terrorist organization, efforts to combat arms smuggling, and the political support provided in the United Nations Security Council. He also expressed gratitude for the U.S. backing of economic reform initiatives.

Importance of Continued U.S. Engagement

The President stressed the importance of maintaining an active U.S. role in Yemen to achieve security, stability, and peace. He warned against the repercussions of any unilateral actions that deviate from agreed-upon frameworks. Furthermore, he commended Saudi Arabia’s efforts to de-escalate tensions in Hadramout and Al-Mahra.

U.S. Commitment to Yemen’s Unity

Ambassador Fagin reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering support for Yemen’s unity, stability, and territorial integrity. He emphasized Washington’s commitment to strengthening partnerships in counter-terrorism efforts and alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people while supporting their aspirations.

Meeting Attendees

Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, also attended the meeting, underscoring the collaborative spirit of the discussions.

This meeting marks a significant step in reinforcing the partnership between Yemen and the United States, aiming to foster peace and stability in the region.
