On Wednesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Norwegian Special Envoy to Yemen, Heidi Johannson, at the Maashiq Palace. This meeting focused on the current situation in Yemen and the ongoing regional and international efforts to engage Houthi militias in serious negotiations aimed at revitalizing the peace process.
The discussions highlighted the urgent need to deter Houthi attacks on oil facilities, civilian infrastructure, and international shipping routes. These assaults have significantly worsened the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and the surrounding region. President Alimi emphasized the importance of a united front in addressing these challenges.
During the meeting, President Alimi praised Norway’s steadfast support for the Yemeni people and their political leadership. He expressed gratitude for Norway’s commitment to helping Yemen restore its state institutions, achieve peace, and foster stability and development.
The President reiterated the council’s and the government’s dedication to a fair and comprehensive peace process. He stressed that this approach aligns with the agreed-upon national, regional, and international references, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution 2216.
The meeting also included Dr. Shaif Al-Zandani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and Saleh Al-Maqalih, Director of the Office of the Presidential Leadership Council.
