President Rashad Alimi Meets U.S. Ambassador to Discuss Bilateral Relations

On Sunday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed U.S. Ambassador Stephen Fagin. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Yemen and the United States, exploring future opportunities for collaboration across various sectors.

Addressing the Current Situation in Yemen

During the discussion, President Alimi and Ambassador Fagin addressed the latest developments in Yemen. They exchanged views on shared concerns, particularly regarding the threat posed by the Iran-backed Houthi militia and its severe human rights violations.

Strengthening U.S.-Yemen Relations

President Alimi praised the exceptional bilateral relations with the United States. He acknowledged the U.S. humanitarian and developmental interventions, as well as its efforts to intercept Iranian arms shipments to the Houthis. The President expressed his desire for a broader partnership to tackle challenges and deter threats to Yemen’s security and stability.

U.S. Designation of Houthi Militias as Terrorist Organization

In this context, President Alimi highlighted the U.S. administration’s decision to reclassify the Houthi militias as a foreign terrorist organization. He reaffirmed the Yemeni government’s commitment to closely cooperate with the international community to implement this decision while minimizing its potential humanitarian impacts on vulnerable social groups.

Call for Global Support

Furthermore, President Alimi emphasized the urgent need for a collective global approach to support the Yemeni government in addressing economic, service, and humanitarian challenges. He stressed the importance of enhancing Yemen’s capabilities to combat terrorism and organized crime, as well as securing its territorial waters as a close partner in maintaining international peace and security.

Meeting Attendance

Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, also attended the meeting, underscoring the importance of this diplomatic engagement.
