The Chairman of the Leadership Council receives an invitation from the French President to attend the third UN Ocean Conference.

President Rashad Alimi Receives Invitation from French President Macron

On Thursday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed French Ambassador Catherine Colonna. During their meeting, the ambassador delivered an invitation from President Emmanuel Macron for President Alimi to attend the third United Nations Conference on the Ocean. This significant event will take place in Nice, France, in mid-2023 and will feature numerous heads of state, the UN Secretary-General, and representatives from international and civil organizations focused on environmental and economic issues.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The discussion also highlighted the strong bilateral relations between Yemen and France. President Alimi addressed the ongoing local situation, particularly the persistent attacks by Houthi militias, which are aligned with the Iranian regime. These attacks target oil facilities and shipping vessels, raising concerns about peace and stability in Yemen.

Economic Reforms and Humanitarian Support

The meeting reviewed the trajectory of economic and financial reforms supported by regional allies and friends, including France. President Alimi emphasized the need for international support to enhance these reforms and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people.

France’s Commitment to Yemen

President Alimi praised the exceptional bilateral relations between Yemen and France. He acknowledged France’s advanced position in understanding and addressing the Yemeni crisis. He expressed hope for a more effective European role and a strategic partnership across all levels.

French Development Initiatives

Ambassador Catherine Colonna also shared insights about French developmental interventions in the temporary capital, Aden, and several other Yemeni governorates. She particularly highlighted initiatives in cultural preservation and the protection of human heritage.

Meeting Attendees

Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, attended the meeting, underscoring the importance of diplomatic engagement in fostering international cooperation.

This meeting marks a significant step in reinforcing Yemen’s international partnerships and addressing pressing humanitarian and economic challenges.
