President Alimi Welcomes German Parliamentary Delegation

On Tuesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed a delegation from the German Parliament led by Deputy Alexander Radwan.

Acknowledging Germany’s Support

During the meeting, President Alimi expressed gratitude for the German Bundestag’s interest in monitoring developments in Yemen. He praised Germany’s principled stance in supporting national sovereignty, the rule of law, and its rejection of extremism and political violence. Alimi regarded Germany as a reliable partner that approaches crises with a long-term perspective, informed by historical lessons.

Updates on Yemen’s Situation

President Alimi briefed the German delegation on recent developments in Yemen. He highlighted significant changes, including the formation of a new government based on competence and professional records. The President emphasized efforts to unify security and military decisions under state institutions after years of division. He also noted the commitment to demilitarizing cities and improving essential services.

Strategic Partnerships for Stability

The President asserted that these steps restore the state’s authority after years of multiple decision-making centers. He pointed out that the relative stability achieved results from a strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia, which has prevented fragmentation and supported economic and service stability. This partnership has created a more conducive environment for any peace process, making it a cornerstone for regional stability.

Germany’s Role in Institutional Support

In this context, President Alimi acknowledged Germany’s pivotal role in supporting the establishment of civil institutions and reforming the security sector according to professional standards. He highlighted Germany’s contributions to the Central Bank and monetary stability, as well as its efforts in building local governance capacities. Alimi emphasized that supporting the Yemeni state is a crucial investment against terrorism, irregular migration, and for enhancing regional stability and maritime security.

Looking Ahead

The President expressed his hope for increased German support in the upcoming phase, which will focus on empowering the state, countering violent ideologies, and ending impunity.

Commitment to Peace

President Alimi reiterated the Presidential Leadership Council’s and the government’s commitment to a peace-oriented approach. However, he acknowledged the challenges of progressing on this path with the Houthi militia, which he described as an ideologically closed group that practices sectarian discrimination and monopolizes power in the name of divine right.

Vision for a Modern Yemen

The President stressed that peace in Yemen must lead to a modern civil state with equal citizenship and a constitutionally regulated armed force, rather than sectarian groups. He affirmed that Yemenis seek not temporary solutions but a sustainable, long-term peace.

Attendees of the Meeting

The meeting included Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, along with Thomas Schneider, the German Ambassador to Yemen, and Deputy Ambassador Sofia Buegner.
