President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty during the ongoing United Nations General Assembly sessions on Tuesday. This meeting underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthen their diplomatic ties.
During their meeting, Minister Abdel-Aty conveyed warm greetings from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. He expressed the President’s wishes for stability and peace for the Yemeni people. In response, President Alimi extended his greetings to President el-Sisi and wished the Egyptian people continued progress and prosperity.
The leaders discussed the exceptional bilateral relations between Yemen and Egypt, exploring avenues for enhancement across various sectors. They also addressed regional issues and the importance of coordination between the two countries to tackle shared challenges. Additionally, they focused on efforts to establish peace and stability in Yemen.
President Alimi praised the historic relationship between Yemen and Egypt. He acknowledged Egypt’s honorable stance alongside the Yemeni people throughout various challenges, highlighting Egypt’s significant role in the coalition supporting Yemen’s legitimacy. He noted Egypt’s efforts to restore state institutions, promote peace, and foster development. Furthermore, he appreciated Egypt’s willingness to provide refuge for hundreds of thousands of Yemenis seeking safety from Houthi militia violence.
In turn, Minister Abdel-Aty reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for Yemen and its people. He emphasized Egypt’s commitment to all efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability, as well as revitalizing the country’s development trajectory.
The meeting also included Dr. Sha’if Al-Zandani, Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Abdullah Al-Saadi, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Osama Abdel-Khalek, Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the UN.
This meeting reflects the ongoing commitment of both Yemen and Egypt to collaborate on critical issues. Their discussions pave the way for enhanced cooperation and solidarity in addressing the challenges facing the region.
