President Rashad Alimi Meets UK Ambassador to Discuss Yemen Donor Conference

On Thursday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed the British Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif. This meeting focused on crucial developments regarding Yemen’s future and international support.

UK’s Role in the Upcoming Donor Conference

During the meeting, Ambassador Sharif briefed President Alimi on the United Kingdom’s efforts to organize the International Donor Conference for Yemen, scheduled for January 20 in New York. The conference aims to rally political and economic support for the Yemeni government while enhancing its capacity to contribute to international peace and security.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The discussions also covered the state of bilateral relations between Yemen and the UK. Both parties explored recent national and regional developments and identified ways to coordinate on various issues of mutual interest.

Addressing Political and Economic Reforms

Additionally, the meeting addressed the ongoing political, economic, and structural reforms in Yemen. President Alimi emphasized the need for international support to improve living conditions and humanitarian situations exacerbated by Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and maritime shipping.

Acknowledging UK’s Humanitarian Efforts

President Alimi praised the exceptional bilateral relations with the UK, highlighting its humanitarian and developmental interventions across multiple sectors. He expressed hope that the upcoming donor conference would significantly address the urgent needs of the Yemeni people and support the legitimate government in asserting control over its territory.

Commitment to Peace and Stability

The President reaffirmed the council’s and the government’s commitment to a comprehensive and just peace based on agreed-upon national, regional, and international references, particularly UN Resolution 2216. He welcomed all initiatives aimed at alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people and fulfilling their aspirations for security, stability, peace, and development.

Support for Palestinian Rights

Furthermore, President Alimi reiterated Yemen’s steadfast position regarding regional developments, particularly the Palestinian people’s right to establish a fully sovereign state. He welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, facilitated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, hoping it would lead to an end to tensions and restore security in the region.

Attendees at the Meeting

The meeting also included the Presidential Leadership Council’s advisor for local administration, Engineer Bader Basalama, and the head of the council’s office, Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh.

This meeting underscores Yemen’s ongoing efforts to secure international support and maintain stability amid challenging circumstances.
