On Saturday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte during the Munich Security Conference in Germany. This meeting highlighted the strong bilateral relations between Yemen and the Netherlands, as well as the promising prospects for further development across various sectors.
During their discussion, President Alimi expressed his deep appreciation for the support provided by the Dutch government. He acknowledged the Netherlands’ steadfast position alongside the legitimate Yemeni government and its people, particularly in mobilizing funding for humanitarian response plans. The President also recognized the Netherlands’ significant contributions to developmental and service sectors in Yemen.
President Alimi briefed Prime Minister Rutte on the current local situation, emphasizing the devastating impacts of the war ignited by the Houthi militia. He pointed out the militia’s rebellion against national consensus, which has been supported by the Iranian regime. The President underscored the urgent need for international awareness regarding these developments.
The conversation also addressed the serious security threats posed by the Houthi militia to maritime navigation and international peace and security. President Alimi highlighted the militia’s grave human rights violations, including the ongoing detention and disappearance of numerous United Nations agency employees and international mission staff, including the humanitarian program officer at the Dutch embassy.
President Alimi stressed the importance of the Netherlands’ active role in uniting the international community. He urged the Dutch government to join in imposing punitive measures against the Houthi militia as a peaceful means to deter their actions and compel them to cease their severe violations on both national and regional levels.
The meeting included several key officials, such as Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, Economic Advisor to the Presidential Leadership Council Abdulaziz Al-Makhlafi, and Yemen’s Ambassador to Germany, Louay Al-Eryani.
This meeting marks a significant step in reinforcing the partnership between Yemen and the Netherlands, focusing on humanitarian support and regional stability.
