In a significant move, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, has called for the commemoration of martyr Aftahan Al-Mashhari. This initiative aims to enhance security measures in Taiz Governorate, targeting those involved in assassination and terrorism crimes. The goal is to cleanse the city of criminal elements and their affiliations with Houthi militias, thereby reinforcing the state’s presence and ensuring public safety.
This directive came in an internal letter addressed to Taiz Governor and Security Committee Chairman Nabil Shamsan, following the burial of Aftahan Al-Mashhari, the General Director of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund. Her funeral took place in her hometown of Al-Mafer on Tuesday.
The president’s instructions include coordinating with the government and relevant authorities to honor Aftahan Al-Mashhari’s memory. This will involve naming the street where she was assassinated after her.
Additionally, the president announced the establishment of “Aftahan Day,” which will serve as an annual day for cleanliness and community initiatives in the governorate. Schools, universities, and youth sectors will participate in this observance. Furthermore, an annual award will be created in her name, recognizing exemplary employees in municipal and environmental services. This award aims to honor dedication and commitment to public service.
The directives emphasize the continuation of security operations to eliminate suspected areas harboring criminal elements. Authorities will implement measures to prevent the recurrence of such crimes and hold accountable anyone found complicit in shielding or facilitating these lawless groups.
Earlier on Tuesday, President Alimi contacted Governor Nabil Shamsan to discuss the latest developments in the governorate. He also reached out to Aftahan’s father, Mohammed Ahmed Al-Mashhari, to express his condolences for their profound loss. He prayed for mercy and forgiveness for their beloved daughter, known for her competence and dedication, and offered them strength during this difficult time.
President Alimi’s initiatives reflect a commitment to both honoring the memory of Aftahan Al-Mashhari and enhancing security in Taiz. By fostering community engagement and accountability, these measures aim to create a safer environment for all residents.
