On Tuesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, arrived in Moscow, marking the beginning of an official visit to the Russian Federation. This visit comes at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin and underscores the strong bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.
Upon arrival at Vnukovo Airport, President Alimi received a warm welcome from Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, Yemeni Ambassador to Russia Ahmed Salem Al-Wahishi, and embassy staff. Traditional reception ceremonies took place, featuring the national anthems of both countries and a review of the honor guard.
During his visit, President Alimi will engage in discussions with President Putin. The talks will focus on enhancing bilateral relations and coordinating positions on several mutual interests. Key topics include developments in Yemen, peace efforts, and regional and international security.
Additionally, President Alimi’s itinerary includes meetings with senior officials from the State Duma, the Russian government, and various political, diplomatic, and cultural figures interested in Yemen and its rich heritage.
In a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), President Alimi praised the long-standing relations between Yemen and Russia, which date back nearly a century. He emphasized the mutual commitment to expanding and strengthening these ties across various fields.
President Alimi expressed gratitude for Russia’s steadfast support of the Yemeni people and their legitimate leadership. He acknowledged Russia’s role in helping Yemen restore its state institutions, security, stability, and peace.
The President expressed confidence that this visit will open new avenues for cooperation and fruitful coordination, benefiting both nations and their peoples.
Accompanying President Alimi on this visit are Foreign Minister and Expatriates Dr. Sha’if Al-Zandani, along with advisors on defense and security, development and reconstruction, and cultural affairs.
