Sana’a, Yemen – Engineer Salem Kaity, the Executive Director of Safer Exploration and Production Company, met with Thomas Schneider, the German Ambassador to Yemen, to address critical issues in the energy sector. The discussion focused on the challenges the company faces amid the country’s exceptional circumstances.
At the beginning of the meeting, which included German Deputy Ambassador Sophia Hertzberg, Yemen Gas Company Director Engineer Mohsen Bin Waheit, and Safer’s Deputy Executive Director Ghaleb Makhout Maeli, Engineer Kaity welcomed the German ambassador. He emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation and partnerships with international allies to support the energy sector and enhance the capabilities of national companies.
Engineer Kaity highlighted Safer’s vital role in the oil and gas sectors. He noted the efforts made to maintain operational continuity despite significant challenges. Key issues include the halt in exporting petroleum products and liquefied natural gas, which have led to economic and operational repercussions affecting maintenance, upgrades, and development projects.
Kaity stressed that the current situation imposes substantial burdens on both the company and the national economy. He pointed out that the oil and gas sector serves as a cornerstone for public revenues, necessitating collaborative efforts from local and international stakeholders to stabilize the sector and enable it to fulfill its developmental role.
The meeting also explored the potential benefits of leveraging German expertise in renewable energy. Both parties discussed opportunities for technical cooperation, knowledge exchange, and capacity building. They examined ways to adopt modern technologies to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and align with global trends towards clean energy and environmental sustainability.
Furthermore, the two sides discussed strategies to boost collaboration and capitalize on investment opportunities in the energy sector, including expanding the use of renewable energy sources and sharing expertise that supports sustainable development.
Ambassador Schneider expressed his interest in understanding the current state of the oil and gas sector and the challenges it faces. He reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting developmental initiatives and enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Schneider praised Safer’s role in contributing to the national economy and reiterated the importance of ongoing communication and coordination to explore new avenues for collaboration that serve shared interests and support development efforts in Yemen.
