On Saturday, the Arab Parliament reiterated its unwavering support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Yemen. The parliament expressed its backing for the Yemeni government, led by the Presidential Leadership Council, in its efforts to protect civilians and uphold state institutions.
During the second general session of the second legislative term, chaired by Mohammed Al-Yamahi, the parliament welcomed the appointment of Dr. Sha’ay Al-Zandani as Prime Minister. The assembly also acknowledged the new members of the Presidential Leadership Council, wishing them success in their national duties.
The statement emphasized that achieving peace in Yemen and the broader region requires the end of the Iran-backed Houthi militia’s coup. The parliament welcomed the call from the President of the Presidential Leadership Council for a comprehensive dialogue conference in Riyadh. This conference aims to bring together various southern factions to discuss equitable solutions to the southern issue.
The Arab Parliament expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for agreeing to host the conference. It praised the Kingdom’s pivotal role in supporting peace efforts and highlighted the 28 development projects worth 1.9 billion Saudi Riyals announced in January. Additionally, Saudi Arabia pledged $90 million to support the Yemeni government’s budget.
The parliament called for the implementation of the prisoner exchange agreement reached in Muscat at the end of December. This agreement aims to alleviate the suffering of prisoners and their families. Furthermore, the parliament condemned the terrorist attack targeting the convoy of the commander of the Second Brigade of the Giants Forces, which resulted in casualties.
The Arab Parliament firmly rejected any interference in the internal affairs of Yemen or Somalia. It stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations. The parliament announced its intention to undertake regional and international political actions to support this stance.
This renewed commitment from the Arab Parliament highlights the ongoing efforts to stabilize Yemen and promote peace in the region.
