The President of the Arab Parliament, Muhammad Al-Yamahi, stated that preserving Yemen’s unity, independence, and territorial integrity ranks as a top priority for the Arab Parliament. This commitment reflects in the Parliament’s discussions during public sessions, committee meetings, and participation in regional and international forums at various levels.
Al-Yamahi conveyed this message in a response to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sheikh Sultan Al-Barakani. The letter, dated October 17, addressed the escalating situation in the Republic of Yemen due to the actions of the Houthi terrorist militias. It highlighted the humanitarian, regional, and international repercussions of these actions, which include crimes and assaults targeting civilians, residential areas, and vital facilities, causing severe damage to infrastructure.
Al-Yamahi noted that the Arab Parliament will discuss and adopt the contents of the letter during its scheduled session on October 26. The Parliament plans to take necessary measures to disseminate the demands outlined in the letter to parliamentary, regional, and international institutions, as well as relevant entities. This approach aims to enhance the Arab and international presence regarding the evolving situation in Yemen.
In his response letter dated October 20, Al-Yamahi expressed sincere greetings and appreciation to Al-Barakani. He praised the message’s content, which reflects a commitment to Yemen’s security and stability.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives addressed the ongoing suffering of residents in Taiz Governorate due to the blockade imposed by Houthi militias on the city. He detailed the bombardment, killings, and mistreatment faced by its inhabitants, as well as the deprivation of water, food, and medicine. Additionally, he highlighted the serious escalation represented by the attack on the government headquarters in the temporary capital, Aden, and the assault on Aden International Airport.
The letter also mentioned Houthi attacks targeting civilians, economic facilities, and airports in the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These actions represent a violation of Saudi sovereignty and pose a threat to its security and civilian safety. Furthermore, the repeated assaults on international navigation raise concerns about risks to energy supply routes and global supply chains.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives commended the parliamentary role of the Arab Parliament in advocating for Arab issues, particularly the Palestinian cause. He appreciated the Parliament’s supportive stance toward Yemen since the onset of the crisis and acknowledged the current President and previous leaders for prioritizing the Yemeni issue in the Arab Parliament’s activities and international engagements.
