Strengthening Agricultural Cooperation in Yemen

In a significant meeting held today in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, Abdulmalik Naji, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, discussed enhancing collaboration with Kriston, the Deputy Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The focus of their discussions centered on implementing agricultural projects, ensuring food security, and supporting sustainable initiatives.

Importance of Collaborative Efforts

During the meeting, Naji emphasized the necessity of creating a collaborative work environment for projects funded by the ICRC. He highlighted the need to address shortcomings in previous initiatives. The discussions also underscored the importance of adhering to established cooperation protocols between the Ministry of Agriculture and the ICRC. Furthermore, Naji called for the involvement of relevant departments within the ministry, including veterinary health, quarantine, and agricultural extension services, to effectively execute agricultural and water management projects.

Naji expressed his appreciation for the ICRC’s efforts in advancing agricultural projects in Yemen, particularly those aimed at enhancing food security. He acknowledged the critical role these initiatives play in supporting the local population.

Commitment to Sustainable Development

In response, Kriston conveyed his gratitude for the Ministry’s role in facilitating the ICRC’s mission. He stressed the importance of continuing sustainable projects, particularly in irrigation. Kriston reaffirmed the commitment to joint efforts in executing agricultural projects, which are vital for the country’s development.

This meeting marks a crucial step toward improving agricultural practices and resource management in Yemen, ultimately contributing to the nation’s food security and sustainable development goals.
