The 54th session of the Arab Permanent Human Rights Committee concluded, with Yemen participating.

The 54th regular session of the Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights concluded its activities in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday, with the participation of the Republic of Yemen. The committee adopted several recommendations, including addressing Israeli violations and racist practices in the occupied Arab territories, the issue of Arab prisoners and detainees in Israeli jails, and the bodies of Palestinian and Arab martyrs held by the Israeli occupation authorities in numbered cemeteries.

The committee called on the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to fulfill his responsibilities under the Rome Statute and to take effective measures to hold the occupying power (Israel) accountable for its crimes and violations of international law, which fall within the court’s jurisdiction. It also followed up on its recent request to issue arrest warrants for those responsible for committing these crimes and massacres.

Furthermore, the committee condemned the Israeli occupation forces for arresting thousands of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, including journalists, medical and relief workers, women, and children, and forcibly disappearing them by transferring them to unknown locations without any information on their well-being or detention sites, exposing them to all forms of psychological and physical violence. The committee demanded their immediate release.

During its meeting from July 29 to 31, which saw the participation of Nabil Abdul Hafeez, Deputy Minister of Human Rights for the Sector of Partnership and International Cooperation, and Sherif Nauman, First Secretary at the Permanent Delegation of Yemen to the Arab League, the committee discussed the topic of artificial intelligence and human rights. It emphasized the need to promote ethical, safe, secure, reliable, interpretable artificial intelligence systems that respect human rights principles.
