Temporary truce established at Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant to repair damaged power line.

### Temporary Ceasefire Implemented Around Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced the initiation of a temporary ceasefire around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in southeastern Ukraine. This measure aims to facilitate urgent repair work to restore external electricity supplies to the facility, which has been under Russian control since 2022.

### Restoration of the Virusplavna Power Line After Mine Clearance

The IAEA clarified that Ukrainian technicians will begin repairs on the damaged Virusplavna power line as soon as the area surrounding the plant is cleared of mines. This step ensures that maintenance crews can access the site safely and efficiently.

### Warnings of Diesel Fuel Shortages and Potential Power Outages

The agency issued a warning regarding dwindling diesel fuel reserves at the plant. If external supplies are not restored or additional diesel shipments are not delivered, the facility could face a complete power outage within days. Since August 20, the plant has relied on diesel-powered emergency generators to maintain vital safety systems and cool the reactors.

### Ongoing Accusations and Escalating Tensions Surrounding Europe’s Largest Nuclear Plant

Moscow and Kyiv continue to exchange accusations of military operations near the plant, amid repeated international warnings about the dangers of ongoing fighting near such a significant nuclear facility. Russian forces seized the Zaporizhzhia plant, the largest nuclear power station in Europe, during the early weeks of the war in 2022.

The situation remains critical as both sides navigate the complexities of military engagement and nuclear safety.
