Taiz, Yemen – In a significant development for the local cultural scene, Engineer Rashad Al-Akhaly, the Deputy Governor of Taiz, officially inaugurated the Taiz Cultural Salon today. This initiative seeks to invigorate the creative community and establish a permanent dialogue platform for artists and intellectuals in the region.
During the inauguration, Al-Akhaly expressed the local authority’s pride in this cultural movement, underscoring the essential role of culture as a fundamental necessity. He articulated that culture acts as the first line of defense against destructive ideologies, particularly referencing the Houthi agenda, which he claims aims to undermine awareness and dismantle national identity. Al-Akhaly noted that social cohesion is fostered through cultural and intellectual activities.
Al-Akhaly further emphasized Taiz’s historical and future significance, calling for a revival of its cultural identity as a vibrant city of life and dreams. He stated that the salon will serve as an open space for youth to reshape the city’s cultural presence while enhancing its creative and national identity. Additionally, Qassem Ibrahim, the Director of the Culture Office, elaborated that the launch of the salon is part of a broader initiative aimed at establishing culture as a sustainable project. This effort seeks to transition knowledge from elite circles into the wider community.
The salon will convene weekly every Thursday, facilitating discussions among various stakeholders in the cultural field. The inauguration ceremony attracted a diverse audience of intellectuals, writers, and artists, featuring artistic performances and discussions that highlighted the necessity of ongoing cultural activities to enrich the creative landscape in Taiz.
This initiative marks a pivotal step toward revitalizing Taiz’s cultural identity and engaging its community in meaningful dialogue and creative expression.
