Celebrating the 61st Anniversary of the October 14 Revolution in Taiz

Today, local authorities in Taiz celebrated the 61st anniversary of the glorious October 14 Revolution with a vibrant ceremony featuring artistic performances, speeches, and a spectacular fireworks display. The event drew attendance from local government leaders, military officials, and security personnel.

A Tribute to the Revolutionaries

During the ceremony, Major General Abdul Karim Al-Sabri, the governor’s deputy for defense and security, joined other executive office directors and representatives from various political parties. Dr. Abdul Qawi Al-Makhlafi, the first governor, extended heartfelt congratulations to the political leadership, represented by the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, and the Yemeni people, including the armed forces, activists, and the families of martyrs.

Dr. Al-Makhlafi emphasized that commemorating the October 14 Revolution serves as a tribute to the heroes who displayed remarkable courage on the mountains of Radfan. He acknowledged their immense sacrifices in the fight against British colonialism, which culminated in victory in 1963 after years of struggle against oppression and tyranny.

Renewing the Spirit of the Revolution

He further stated that this celebration renews the spirit of the revolution, which liberated the people from oppression. He highlighted Taiz’s significant role as a supportive environment for revolutionaries preparing to combat colonialism and tyranny. The bravery of revolutionaries, led by the courageous fighter Rajeh Ghab Labouza and his comrades, marked the beginning of their resistance against colonial ambitions in southern Yemen.

Dr. Al-Makhlafi remarked, “This revolutionary evening, illuminated by the light of the October Revolution, embodies all meanings of freedom, independence, and national struggle. It heralds the dawn of liberation and independence in the memory of our eternal October Revolution.”

Taiz’s Role in Revolutionary History

Taiz distinguished itself in celebrating the anniversaries of both revolutions, which represent a complementary and authentic revolutionary legacy that cannot be fragmented. The city played a vital role in the success of these movements.

In his remarks, Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Najjar, Deputy Chief of Staff for the Taiz Axis, reflected on the trials of the October 14 Revolution. He noted how revolutionaries, driven by will and determination, overcame the colonial powers and achieved remarkable feats on the mountains of Radfan, Aden, Lahij, Al-Dhale, and Abyan. Their efforts led to a decisive victory in an unequal battle, fueled by the justice of their cause and the spirit of sacrifice.

A Testament to Courage

Brigadier General Al-Najjar stated, “This revolution stands as a testament to the bravery and heroism of the Yemeni people in their fight against colonialism and tyranny.” He also emphasized Taiz’s honor in contributing to the victories of September 26 and October 14 revolutions, while continuing to uphold the national project and make sacrifices in the ongoing struggle against the Houthi militia.

Celebrating the Legacy

Several speeches followed, including those from Abdullah Al-Eleimi, Director of the Culture Office, and Mohammed Al-Shaari, Director of the Dhubab District. They recounted the heroic acts and enduring struggles against colonialism, despite the violence, killings, and imprisonment faced by the heroes of the October 14 Revolution until the last British soldier departed from southern Yemen.

The ceremony featured numerous patriotic and energetic anthems that resonated with the audience. Fireworks lit up the Cairo Castle and the streets of the city, marking this significant occasion.

The 61st anniversary of the October 14 Revolution in Taiz not only celebrated historical achievements but also reinforced the ongoing commitment to freedom and justice in Yemen. The event served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by past generations and the enduring spirit of resistance among the Yemeni people.
