Rescue Efforts Continue in Venezuela Following Devastating Earthquakes

Nearly a week after two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela, international rescue teams persist in their search for survivors trapped beneath the rubble. Despite the significant humanitarian crisis, hope remains alive as rescue operations continue.

Survivors Found Days After the Disaster

Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele announced that rescue teams from El Salvador successfully located a 44-year-old man trapped under the debris of a shopping center in the coastal city of Maiquetía. Rescuers provided him with water through a tube until they could safely extract him.

Additionally, firefighters from Quito, Ecuador, rescued a 12-year-old boy. They confirmed that “signs of life after five days represent the greatest motivation to continue search efforts.”

Widespread International Solidarity

In response to the disaster, Venezuelan authorities reported a robust international response to support rescue efforts. The country has received aid from 30 nations, which includes:

  • 1,000 tons of food and medical supplies.
  • Over 3,600 rescue and support items.
  • 118 specialized search and rescue dogs.

Rising Death Toll

Reports indicate that the death toll from the consecutive earthquakes has reached 1,719, while rescue teams continue searching for thousands of missing individuals. The extensive destruction in the affected areas highlights the magnitude of the disaster, necessitating a united international effort to assist those impacted.
