South Korea has experienced an extraordinary increase in its information and communication technology (ICT) exports, which more than doubled in March compared to the same month last year. This remarkable surge is primarily attributed to robust demand for semiconductors, fueled by the ongoing global expansion of artificial intelligence technologies.
Data released by the Ministry of Science and ICT reveals that the value of ICT exports reached an impressive $43.51 billion in March, a significant rise from $20.52 billion during the same period in the previous year. This marks a pivotal milestone, as it is the first time that monthly ICT exports have surpassed the $40 billion threshold in March.
The report also indicates that imports have increased by 32.2% year-on-year, totaling $16.15 billion. This rise in imports has contributed to a substantial trade surplus of $27.36 billion in the ICT sector, underscoring South Korea’s strong position within the global technology market.
As the demand for advanced technologies continues to grow, South Korea’s ICT sector is well-positioned for further expansion. The country’s ability to leverage the AI revolution establishes it as a leader in the evolving global technology landscape.
