In a series of unfortunate events, seven individuals have lost their lives or sustained injuries in separate incidents across the central Yemeni province of Ibb. These incidents underscore the prevailing lawlessness affecting various districts within the province.
Local sources reported that a dispute over a wall between the households of Al-Badawi and Al-Humairi in the village of Dhahrat Al-Awdi, located in the Al-Musayniah area of Jabal Aqd district, north of Ibb province, resulted in one citizen’s death and injuries to three others. The disagreement escalated, leading to this tragic outcome.
In another distressing incident in the city of Ibb, the provincial capital, a man named Ali Al-Hajri was fatally shot by his friend, Ayman Al-Za’im, in what was described as an accidental discharge of a weapon in the Al-Mashannah district. This incident adds to a growing list of fatalities and injuries caused by the reckless handling of firearms. Over the past months and years, dozens, including children and youth, have fallen victim to such incidents amid widespread availability of firearms in the province, currently under the control of the Houthi militia.
In a separate and equally shocking event, a man took his own life in a horrifying manner by throwing himself in front of a heavy transport truck on a public street in the city of Al-Udayn, west of Ibb. Additionally, an electrical engineer named Yaser Awadh Al-Sa’idi lost his life due to electrocution while on duty in the city of Ibb. His death highlights the dangers posed by the extensive network of unofficial electric lines, often installed by investors affiliated with the Houthi militia. These installations have resulted in dozens of casualties over recent months and years, exacerbated by a lack of oversight from relevant authorities and an absence of public awareness campaigns about the dangers of these makeshift networks.
The province of Ibb is witnessing an alarming spread of unregulated electrical networks and a wide availability of firearms, contributing to a state of chaos and insecurity. The recent incidents call for urgent measures from concerned authorities to enforce regulations, conduct awareness campaigns, and ensure public safety in the face of such challenges.
