A significant drug smuggling operation was thwarted by the Security and Protection Battalion at the Al-Wadiah border crossing. Authorities intercepted a truck attempting to transport 13,750 Captagon pills into Saudi Arabia. The truck originated from the capital, Sana’a, which is under the control of the Houthi militia.
Brigadier General Amir Mahmoud Al-Azab, the battalion commander, reported to the Yemeni News Agency that the truck raised suspicions upon reaching the checkpoint known as the “Weapon Point.” The highly skilled personnel at the checkpoint, equipped with keen security awareness, conducted a meticulous search of the vehicle. This thorough inspection revealed the concealed narcotics, despite the smugglers’ attempts to hide them.
Following the discovery, authorities seized the illegal substances along with the driver. They initiated legal procedures and referred the case to the relevant authorities for further action. Al-Azab highlighted the battalion’s ongoing success in intercepting various drug smuggling attempts. Notably, last month, they prevented the smuggling of over one million Captagon pills hidden inside a refrigerated truck from Houthi-controlled areas, backed by the Iranian regime.
Brigadier General Al-Azab emphasized that the battalion remains in a state of full readiness and vigilance. They are committed to their national duty of protecting the homeland and firmly countering smuggling attempts, regardless of the methods employed.
