The Saudi Weather Center revealed on Sunday that this year’s Hajj season marks the end of the pilgrimage’s association with summer. The center predicts that the Hajj will return to summer after a span of 25 years.
Hussein Al-Qahtani, the official spokesperson for the center, explained that the next eight Hajj seasons will occur in spring. Following that, another eight seasons will take place in winter. Eventually, autumn seasons will see gradually rising temperatures, leading back to summer in approximately 25 years.
This shift aligns with the lunar calendar cycle, which enhances the likelihood of performing rituals in more moderate weather conditions during future seasons.
This year’s Hajj season experienced higher temperatures, prompting the Saudi Ministry of Health to issue warnings to pilgrims. The ministry advised against direct sun exposure from 10 AM to 4 PM to prevent heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heat strokes.
The ministry emphasized the importance of adhering to crowd management guidelines and preventive measures. These include using umbrellas and staying hydrated, all part of the health system’s efforts to protect pilgrims and ensure their safety during the rituals.
The Ministry of Health reported a remarkable 90% decrease in heat-related illnesses among pilgrims this season compared to last year. This achievement results from coordinated efforts between the health system and government agencies to address health risks, allowing pilgrims to perform their rituals safely.
In a statement, the ministry confirmed that this decline stems from enhanced preventive interventions, increased awareness campaigns, and effective coordination. These efforts have significantly contributed to safeguarding pilgrims’ health from heat-related issues, enabling them to fulfill their religious duties with ease and peace of mind.
