Sanaa: Houthi militia continues to seize public property, converting the Armed Forces Officers’ Club into a commercial market.

Houthi Militias Begin Construction at Military Officers’ Club in Sana’a

The Houthi militia has initiated construction projects within the premises of the Armed Forces Officers’ Club in the capital, Sana’a. This move aims to convert the facility into a commercial and investment market catering to influential leaders within the group. This action marks yet another step in a long series of seizures of public institutions and assets in areas under their control.

Ongoing Seizure of State Lands

Local sources report that, in recent days, the militia has started erecting warehouses and commercial shops within the club’s walls. This development is particularly concerning as the site serves as a military facility dedicated to the officers and personnel of the armed forces.

Systematic Approach to Public and Private Property Theft

This latest action follows closely on the heels of a prominent Houthi leader’s recent seizure of land belonging to the Police Academy in Sana’a. The leader fenced off the property and incorporated it into his private holdings, despite its ownership by the academy since the 1970s. The land had previously functioned as a parking area and service facility for the institution.

Reports indicate that the Houthi militia has intensified its efforts in recent years to acquire government lands and properties. They have also targeted endowment properties and private sector assets, leveraging their military and security influence to assert control over strategic locations and economically valuable public facilities.

This ongoing trend raises significant concerns about the future of public assets in areas under Houthi control, as the militia continues to expand its reach and influence.
