In the past two days, Ibb Governorate has witnessed a series of alarming security incidents, resulting in casualties and property damage across several towns. These events highlight the escalating lawlessness in the region, which remains under the control of the Houthi militia.
One tragic incident involved mechanical engineer Shaif Mansour Al-Hilali, who died after being stabbed by a qat seller in Ibb City during a financial dispute. Additionally, two citizens, Omar Al-Nazari and Bilal Al-Omari, sustained varying degrees of injuries from gunfire by armed assailants in the Al-Muthallath area, northwest of the city. The perpetrators fled the scene.
In the Al-Dhabari area, west of Ibb, unknown individuals set fire to the vehicle of citizen Radwan Naaman Abdullah Ali, completely destroying it. The phenomenon of vehicle arson is on the rise in the governorate. In a separate incident, the home of expatriate citizen Hazem Ahmed Abdo in the Al-Amuqin village of Al-Sayani district came under heavy gunfire from an armed gang, causing significant material damage and instilling fear among women and children.
The village of Al-Amuqin has become a hotspot for intense conflicts between local armed gangs, allegedly supported by Houthi leaders. These clashes have involved nighttime gunfire exchanges for several weeks. As a result, 53 homes have suffered damage, and a woman and a child have been injured, along with several vehicles.
In the Al-Makhader district, another incident of vandalism occurred at a local farmer’s property, where crops were destroyed and scattered on the ground. Attacks on farms, beehives, and water pumps are increasingly common, reflecting the growing influence of armed gangs in the area.
These recurring incidents underscore the deteriorating security situation and the rise of criminal activities and banditry in Ibb Governorate. The ongoing violence raises significant concerns about the region’s stability, amid accusations that Houthi leaders support these gangs to sow chaos and disrupt the social fabric for their sectarian agenda.
The situation in Ibb continues to evolve, prompting calls for urgent action to restore order and protect citizens from escalating violence.
