Rights center reveals Houthi militias committed over 12,000 violations in Al Bayda province.

In a revealing report by the Monitoring Center for Rights and Development, the Houthi militias, backed by the Iranian regime, have committed more than 12,557 violations in the Al Bayda governorate from January 2015 to July 2024. This alarming figure underscores the extensive human rights abuses occurring in the region.

A Detailed Look at the Violations

The center’s fifth periodic report, titled “Life of Oppression,” which the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) received, highlights the grave impact of these violations on civilians. The report documents the killing of 693 civilians and the injury of 713 others, including women and children. It also notes 2,950 cases of arrests and kidnappings, 421 instances of threats, mistreatment, and movement restrictions, and more than 6,516 cases of forced displacement. Additionally, the report details over 1,280 violations against private and public properties.

The Humanitarian Crisis Worsens

The conflict has forced over 6,516 individuals to flee the fighting, with a staggering 484,423 people—58% of the governorate’s population—desperately needing humanitarian aid and protection. The continued aggression by the Houthi militias not only exacerbates the humanitarian crisis but also places thousands of civilians at risk regarding their safety and basic rights.

A Call for International Action

The report also sheds light on a horrific crime committed by the Houthi militias on March 19, 2024, involving the explosion of a house that led to the destruction of five neighboring homes and civilian casualties. In response to these atrocities, the Monitoring Center urges an immediate halt to random attacks, bombings, and the planting of mines and explosive devices. It calls for investigations, accountability, and punishment for those responsible for killings, injuries, and property damage. The center demands urgent international intervention to protect civilians and address the ongoing crisis.
