Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak Meets UN Deputy Resident Representative in Yemen

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak welcomed Dr. Iman Al-Shanqeeti, the Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations in Yemen, in the temporary capital of Aden. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation and partnership between the Yemeni government and various UN agencies and humanitarian organizations.

Discussing Humanitarian Efforts

During the discussion, the two officials addressed the steps the government has taken to mitigate potential humanitarian impacts. This conversation comes in light of the U.S. government’s recent decision to reclassify the Houthi militia as a foreign terrorist organization. They emphasized the importance of joint coordination to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches all needy areas in Yemen without discrimination, while also removing any obstacles that may impede this process.

Commitment to Humanitarian Work

Prime Minister bin Mubarak reaffirmed the government’s full support for the humanitarian community, including UN organizations and international relief agencies. He highlighted the need to enhance partnership and coordination, especially in light of the demographic shifts caused by the large influx of displaced persons into liberated provinces.

Urging Relocation of UN Agencies

The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s request for the relocation of the main offices of UN agencies and international organizations to Aden. He stressed that this move would create a stable environment for humanitarian work, free from obstacles. Additionally, he pointed out the need to curb looting practices by Houthi militias, which divert aid for their so-called war efforts against the Yemeni people.

Meeting Attendees

The meeting also included the presence of Ambassador Mujib Othman, an advisor to the Prime Minister, who contributed to the discussions on improving humanitarian efforts in Yemen.

This meeting underscores the Yemeni government’s commitment to facilitating humanitarian operations and ensuring that aid reaches those in need amidst ongoing challenges.
