Pharmacists in Taiz stage a partial strike in protest against pharmaceutical companies’ neglect of currency exchange rate improvements.

Partial Strike by Taiz Pharmacists Highlights Drug Pricing Issues

On Saturday, pharmacists in Taiz staged a partial strike at local pharmacies. This protest aimed to address the ongoing issue of pharmaceutical companies maintaining high prices for their products, despite a significant improvement in the value of the national currency. Citizens continue to suffer under these economic conditions.

Pharmacists Speak Out Against Pharmaceutical Companies

In a statement, the pharmacists emphasized that they do not bear the brunt of this crisis. Instead, they described themselves as victims of the greed exhibited by importing and manufacturing companies. These companies refuse to adjust their prices, while regulatory bodies, particularly the Supreme Drug Authority, remain silent. The pharmacists pointed out that the recent improvements in currency exchange rates should have positively influenced drug prices, yet the current situation defies basic economic logic.

Urgent Call for Government Action

The statement urged relevant authorities to take immediate action. Pharmacists called for companies to price medications according to the official exchange rate and to enhance regulatory oversight to prevent price manipulation. They also demanded solutions that ensure fair drug prices for citizens.

A Step Towards Escalation

This partial strike represents the first step in a broader escalation aimed at achieving equitable access to medications. Pharmacists warned of a potential health crisis if their demands continue to be ignored.
