New Details Emerge in the Abduction and Assassination of Engineer Wisam Qaed
On Saturday evening, the security administration of temporary capital Aden revealed new information regarding the abduction and assassination of Engineer Wisam Qaed, the acting director of the Social Fund for Development. This announcement followed the release of a video confession from one of the suspects, which provided precise details about the crime’s execution and the roles played by the involved cell from their arrival in the city to their attempted escape.
Suspects’ Confessions and Crime Details
In the recorded confession, suspect Omar Nasser Saleh admitted to receiving the cell members and transporting them from Al-Dhale’e Governorate to Aden. He also arranged accommodations for them to facilitate their movements discreetly before they later relocated to another site in the Bir Fadl area.
The confessions revealed that Omar’s primary task involved monitoring Engineer Wisam Qaed’s movements. He collected information about the engineer’s schedule, route, and vehicle specifications, which he then relayed to the other cell members. They relied on this information to track the victim until the moment of the assassination.
Escape Attempt and Security Measures
Omar also confessed to securing the escape of the perpetrators and attempting to smuggle them out of Aden after the crime. However, heightened security measures and the presence of checkpoints thwarted their escape plan. Consequently, he had to temporarily shelter them in his home. He noted that he concealed the weapon used in the crime before transporting it with the cell members the following day towards Sana’a.
Ongoing Investigations and Security Efforts
Additionally, the suspect disclosed that he received financial compensation for his surveillance activities, along with a money transfer he received after the crime to repair his vehicle and move to areas controlled by the Houthi militia. It is important to note that Engineer Wisam Qaed was abducted on May 3rd from in front of his home in the Inma neighborhood, before being found murdered inside his car in the Al-Hasswa area.
The security forces continue their investigations to apprehend the remaining individuals involved and uncover all circumstances surrounding the crime. These efforts are part of their ongoing commitment to enhance security and stability in Aden.
