National Women’s Committee Discusses Women’s Role in Combating Corruption in Aden

A Meeting to Foster Gender Inclusion

On Tuesday, Dr. Shafiqa Said, the head of the National Women’s Committee, presided over a significant meeting in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen. This event was organized by the Prime Minister’s technical team in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The primary objective was to support the integration of gender perspectives and enhance women’s participation in the national strategy aimed at combating corruption.

Strategic Vision for Women’s Participation

During the meeting, Dr. Shafiqa presented the strategic vision of the National Women’s Committee. She underscored the critical necessity of involving women in anti-corruption efforts, framing this as a national imperative that upholds the principles of integrity, transparency, and good governance. Dr. Shafiqa noted the historical significance of Yemeni women’s contributions across various contexts and challenges throughout the country’s past.

Workshop Preparation and Collaborative Agreements

The meeting also included a presentation outlining preparations for an upcoming national workshop titled “The Role of Women in Promoting Integrity and Combating Corruption.” Participants engaged in discussions that examined the relationship between women’s rights and the establishment of principles of transparency and accountability. The meeting concluded with an agreement to establish joint coordination mechanisms among government entities, international partners, and civil society organizations. This collaboration aims to facilitate the upcoming national workshop and develop a comprehensive national approach centered on transparency, justice, and equal citizenship.
