National Power in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Organizing Production Systems.

National Power in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

Kim Young-beom, a presidential advisor on policy in South Korea, emphasized that national power in the era of artificial intelligence (AI) will depend on a country’s ability to organize production systems, rather than solely on technical skills. He stated that AI represents a comprehensive production revolution, not just a technological one.

Transforming Industrial Policies

In a recent social media post, Kim outlined that industrial policy in this new era must focus on transforming the entire nation into a unified production platform. This transformation requires securing a diverse workforce capable of addressing the new challenges posed by AI.

Major Government Projects

Observers note that Kim’s statements highlight the significance of three major government projects aimed at achieving balanced regional development. These initiatives include substantial investments in semiconductors, physical AI, and AI data centers.

Significant Future Investments

Last Thursday, the Korean Ministry of Industry announced a massive investment of 392 trillion won (approximately $252.5 billion) from Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. This funding aims to establish facilities for manufacturing and packaging high-bandwidth memory, as part of the government’s efforts to expand AI-driven growth.

The Importance of AI in the Economy

These investments represent a strategic move to enhance South Korea’s position in modern technology. Officials aim to establish the country as a leading hub for innovation, research, and development, which will contribute to improving the national economy and strengthening the nation’s competitiveness in the global market.
