Today, Yemen’s Ministry of Water and Environment signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Green Climate Fund. This agreement aims to enhance institutional capacities and expand climate investments within the framework of the 2024-2027 readiness strategy.
The MoU emphasizes the development of national environmental policies and the improvement of climate change adaptation plans. Additionally, it seeks to strengthen collaboration with donors and international organizations. This collaboration will ensure the sustainability of climate projects and accelerate their implementation.
As part of the agreement, the Ministry will appoint an expert to assist in executing national readiness programs. This expert will help the ministry access available funding from the Green Climate Fund. Furthermore, the MoU aims to enhance coordination among stakeholders, including government entities, civil society, and the private sector. This collaboration will ensure the effective and sustainable implementation of climate projects.
Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, Yemen’s Minister of Water and Environment, stated that the agreement marks a pivotal moment in strengthening climate security in Yemen. He noted that it will enhance the country’s ability to confront climate change challenges and protect the environment. Al-Sharjabi urged international partners and donors to intensify their cooperation and support. He emphasized the need for sustainable projects in water security, food security, public health, and renewable energy. These efforts will bolster the community’s capacity to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
