Minister’s Statement on U.S. Intervention
The Yemeni Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, stated that President Donald Trump’s announcement to halt military operations against the Iranian-backed Houthi militia followed the group’s surrender and plea for an end to airstrikes. Al-Eryani emphasized that this development underscores a clear reality: “Only the language of power is understood by the Houthis.”
Military Strikes Prompt Houthi Retreat
In a recent press statement, Al-Eryani explained that the U.S. decision was not merely the result of political negotiations or diplomatic pressure. Instead, it stemmed directly from precise military strikes that disrupted the militia’s structure and diminished its capabilities, forcing a retreat.
He noted that the Houthi surrender was not voluntary but rather a consequence of intense pressure. Targeted strikes on command centers, weapon depots, and facilities for assembling ballistic missiles and drones severely weakened the militia. These effective operations crippled Houthi communication systems and isolated field leaders, revealing the fragility of the “deterrence” narrative the militia had promoted in recent months.
Iran’s Influence Diminished
Al-Eryani asserted that the Houthi setback represents more than just a defeat for a rebellious group; it signifies a practical decline in Iranian influence in one of its key expansion areas. He pointed out that Tehran has linked its expansionist agenda to the Houthis, providing them with financial, technical, and political support. The militia has served as a constant threat to regional security and maritime routes.
He added that the collapse of this Iranian proxy under concentrated military pressure sends a clear message to Tehran: the era of proxy wars is waning, and investing in chaos and destruction will come at a steep cost.
A Historic Opportunity for Yemen
Concluding his remarks, Al-Eryani emphasized that the Houthi surrender should be interpreted as a practical acknowledgment of defeat. It serves as evidence of the fragility of the Iranian project that the militia embodies. He asserted that the arsenal and propaganda accumulated over the years could be dismantled in days if there is a collective will.
This moment represents a historic opportunity that should not be missed. Al-Eryani called for a unified national front to regain initiative and move towards a comprehensive resolution that restores the state’s authority and curtails Iran’s interference in Yemen and the broader region.
