Military experts in Yemen have raised alarms about the increasing danger posed by Iranian-backed Houthi militia attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. They emphasize that an effective response requires substantial support for the capabilities of the Yemeni armed forces and enhanced intelligence operations.
In statements to “September Net,” military expert Brigadier General Ali Al-Zahab stressed the importance of developing advanced defense and intelligence systems. These systems will empower naval forces and coast guards to confront these threats effectively. He called for precise strategies to secure Yemen’s coastlines, particularly in the Al-Hudaydah Governorate.
Al-Zahab pointed out that an effective response must involve both internal and external intelligence coordination. This includes collaboration with regional and international partners. Additionally, he urged the activation of inspection committees for ships, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
Colonel Abdul Basit Al-Bahr echoed these concerns, stating that the Houthi escalation poses a direct threat to both regional and international security. He called for comprehensive political and military support for the legitimate Yemeni government to help restore sovereignty over all Yemeni territories.
Al-Bahr explained that stability in the Red Sea cannot be achieved without securing the land depth. This situation necessitates a decisive military resolution on internal fronts, along with ongoing air and logistical support to liberate areas under Houthi control.
Experts unanimously agree that dismantling the Houthi organization is a strategic necessity. This action is crucial for alleviating the suffering of Yemenis and safeguarding global shipping routes and the vital interests of neighboring countries.
The need for a robust military and intelligence response is clear as Yemen faces escalating threats from the Houthi militia. The international community’s involvement will be essential in addressing these challenges effectively.
