National Risk Coordination Committee Discusses Emergency Plans in Aden

On Thursday, the National Risk Coordination Committee (NCC) convened in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen. The meeting, led by Dr. Qasim Baheebah, the Minister of Public Health and Population, focused on the national emergency plan and the national communication strategy regarding risks.

Emphasizing Collaborative Efforts

During the meeting, representatives from various ministries and health sector partners participated. Minister Baheebah emphasized the importance of unifying coordination efforts among the Ministry of Health and its partners in other sectors. He stated that today’s discussion centers on community participation and communication strategies to address ongoing risks affecting the country. Baheebah highlighted the necessity of developing a national plan that incorporates diverse opinions, ensuring that all stakeholders are involved in planning, implementation, and evaluation.

A Strategic Approach to Health Emergencies

Dr. Baheebah described the plan as a pivotal step toward strengthening preparedness for health emergencies and tackling public health challenges in Yemen. He noted that the plan relies on a detailed, systematic assessment of all risks. It prioritizes multi-sectoral collaboration, focusing on protecting the most vulnerable populations. Additionally, the plan provides clear guidelines for risk mitigation, building resilience, and ensuring effective emergency response.

Importance of Continuous Communication

Dr. Ali Al-Walidi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Primary Health Care, remarked that the meeting aligns with the ministry’s strategy to engage with relevant sectors. He stressed the significance of this communication in enhancing mobilization efforts and changing community behavior through the involvement of all sectors.

This meeting marks a crucial step in Yemen’s ongoing efforts to address health risks and improve emergency preparedness. The collaborative approach aims to foster a resilient health system capable of responding effectively to future challenges.
