Over a Thousand Mines Removed in a Week

In a significant advancement towards making Yemen safer, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s “Masam” project successfully removed 1,139 mines during the third week of August 2024. These mines, laid by the Houthi militias across several provinces, have posed a grave threat to the lives of civilians.

Detailed Breakdown of the Clearance Efforts

The center disclosed in a statement that the cleared mines comprised 13 anti-personnel mines, 56 anti-tank mines, 1,057 pieces of unexploded ordnance, and 13 improvised explosive devices (IEDs). This recent effort has brought the total number of mines removed in August to 2,529. The project has made significant progress since its inception, with a total of 455,827 mines cleared to date. These mines were indiscriminately planted by the Houthi militias in various provinces, targeting innocent civilians including children, women, and the elderly.
