Mahra Security Arrests Gang Specializing in Cyber Crimes and Account Hacking

Cybercrime Crackdown in Al Mahrah: Security Forces Dismantle Hacking Syndicate

In a significant operation, security forces in Al Mahrah governorate have successfully dismantled a four-member gang, including a woman, involved in hacking the accounts and mobile phones of merchants and transferring funds illicitly.

A Network of Financial Fraud

A responsible security source revealed that this gang is part of a larger network that operates under the jurisdiction of provinces controlled by the Houthi militia. This network is involved in receiving the stolen funds and rerouting them back to the governorate. The arrest came after the Criminal Investigation Department received multiple complaints from citizens about being victims of fraud and unauthorized financial transactions from their accounts.

Investigation and Arrests

Following thorough investigation and surveillance, the authorities identified the members of the gang and obtained a warrant to search their residences. During the searches, officials seized computers, mobile phones, SIM cards, and USB drives used in the criminal activities. Interrogations with the suspects uncovered their use of specialized hacking and mobile breaching applications to access and steal from victims’ accounts and data.

Call for Vigilance

The security source urged citizens, merchants, and money exchangers to exercise caution and adopt secure methods for their financial transactions. They recommended dealing officially with banks and money exchangers, avoiding the use of text messages and social media for financial communications, and promptly reporting any suspicious activities to the authorities. The emphasis was on not underestimating the severity of such crimes and the importance of maintaining vigilance to prevent falling victim to similar schemes.

This operation marks a significant step in the fight against cybercrime in the region, showcasing the dedication of Al Mahrah’s security forces to protect its citizens and their assets from sophisticated criminal networks.
