Yemen Launches Financial and Zakat Management Conference in Aden

In a significant move towards enhancing financial and zakat (Islamic charity) management, Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, witnessed the commencement of an extensive meeting today. The Ministry of Local Administration, in partnership with the German organization Berghof Foundation, organized this event. It aims to bring together general managers of financial resources and zakat obligations from the liberated provinces to discuss and strategize on improving financial and zakat management across the region.

Emphasis on Legal Reforms and Zakat Management

Hussein Al-Aghbari, the Minister of Local Administration, highlighted the critical nature of discussing legal amendments related to the zakat law. He stressed the importance of transitioning zakat obligations to the General Authority for Zakat. The goal is to incorporate all feedback from general managers of zakat and financial resources within local authorities. Al-Aghbari also pointed out the significance of examining the zakat banking experiences of other Arab countries. The conference aims to conclude with actionable recommendations that could enhance financial resources and zakat obligations, thereby improving their performance and positive impact. Moreover, Al-Aghbari emphasized developing plans to ensure the sustainability of the achieved results.

A Call for Law Adherence and Development Support

Minister Al-Aghbari underscored the importance of adhering to the system and law when collecting local and shared resource fees, while strongly condemning illegal taxation that burdens citizens. He acknowledged the pivotal role of financial and zakat managers in local development, viewing them as the backbone of local authorities’ development efforts.

Al-Aghbari assured the ministry’s readiness to overcome any challenges faced by local authorities in the liberated provinces. This support aligns with the government’s overall direction to boost the state’s developmental and revenue processes.

The conference marks a crucial step towards improving financial management and zakat practices in Yemen, reflecting the government’s commitment to legal reform and sustainable development. This initiative is expected to pave the way for more efficient and effective financial and zakat management systems that can significantly contribute to the nation’s growth and prosperity.
