Lexar unveils “Muse,” the world’s thinnest portable storage drive, measuring just 3.8 mm in thickness.

Lexar Unveils the World’s Thinnest Portable SSD at IFA 2026

American company Lexar has introduced its latest portable storage solution, the Muse, during the IFA 2026 exhibition. The Muse claims the title of the thinnest SSD in the world, measuring just 3.8 mm at its thickest point and tapering down to 1 mm at the edges. This sleek design resembles an ultra-thin metal card.

Ultra-Slim Design Without Compromising Performance

According to the information released, Lexar achieves this unique design by stacking high-density NAND chips and utilizing a slim circuit board architecture. The Muse delivers impressive read speeds of up to 1050 MB/s and write speeds of 1000 MB/s, comparable to USB 3.2 Gen 2 drives. Additionally, it supports 4K Apple ProRes video recording at 120 frames per second directly on compatible iPhones, making it an ideal choice for content creators.

Trade-Offs for Portability

To achieve this unprecedented thickness, Lexar has opted to forgo the traditional USB-C port. Instead, the Muse uses a SnapLink magnetic cable through a pogo-pin interface, meaning users must rely exclusively on this cable. The company also offers a magnetic case to securely attach the drive to compatible MagSafe iPhones.

Availability and Capacities

Lexar plans to release the Muse in two storage capacities: 512 GB and 1 TB later this year. However, the company has not yet disclosed pricing details.
