Leadership Council member Usman Majali contacts governors of provinces affected by torrential rains and floods.

Yemeni Leadership Responds to Devastating Floods

In a concerted effort to address the aftermath of severe flooding, Sheikh Osman Majali, a member of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, initiated crucial discussions today. Under the directives of President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Majali reached out to the governors of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan; Al Hudaydah, Dr. Al Hasan Taher; and Hajjah, General Abdul Karim Al-Sunaini, to assess the urgent needs of the flood-affected areas and expedite emergency interventions.

Assessing the Damage

During these conversations, Majali gathered detailed accounts of the disasters’ impact on both citizens and infrastructure. The situation has been exacerbated in areas under Houthi militia control due to trench digging, tunnel construction, and alterations to watercourses, alongside the dangers posed by mines displaced by the floodwaters.

Mobilizing Support

Majali reassured that the Presidential Leadership Council and the government are fully committed to alleviating the suffering of the affected citizens. This commitment includes collaboration with Saudi Arabia, highlighting the strong regional support for Yemen during these challenging times.

Relief Efforts Underway

President Al-Alimi had previously assigned Majali to oversee relief operations in the disaster-stricken provinces, based on field reports detailing the climatic damages. These reports praised the significant role of Saudi Arabia in providing immediate relief to mitigate the natural disaster’s impact.

General Yahya Salah, Commander of the Fifth Military Region, informed President Al-Alimi and Majali of an impending shipment of aid from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center. This shipment, expected to arrive tomorrow, will target liberated areas of Hajjah province, including Midi, Hayran, parts of Haradh, and the Bani Hassan area in Abs district. The aid includes over 640 tents, 528 shelter bags complete with tanks, flashlights, and blankets, marking the first urgent batch of assistance.

Ongoing Commitment to Recovery

General Salah highlighted President Al-Alimi’s commendation of the humanitarian efforts by the King Salman Center. The President emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of the situation in the affected areas. He expressed hope for further support from both regional and international partners in aiding the government and local authorities. The collective goal is to ease human suffering and rehabilitate the infrastructure and areas ravaged by the climatic changes, underlining a unified approach to overcoming the challenges posed by the recent floods.
