Leadership Council Head meets with UN Project Services delegation.

On Sunday, His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with a delegation from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) at the Presidential Palace in the city of Mukalla. The delegation was led by the Deputy Director of the Human Capital Project, Abdulwahab Salah.

The meeting, which was attended by the Governor of Hadramout, Mabkhout bin Madi, and an advisor to the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, discussed the interventions of the UNOPS and the opportunities to expand its developmental and service support in various fields.

The UN delegation provided President Al-Alimi with an overview of the projects being implemented by UNOPS in Hadramout province, and the office’s plans to extend its interventions to other cities within the province in areas such as urban engineering and services, and infrastructure, especially in sectors like public works, sanitation, education, and renewable energy.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the role of UNOPS, expressing his hope for an increase in the office’s efforts by leveraging the authorities granted to local authorities to facilitate the work of international organizations and improve citizens’ access to their services supported by the donor community.

President Al-Alimi, on behalf of the council members and the government, also expressed solidarity with the humanitarian and human rights community against the violations by the Houthi militias, which are supported by the Iranian regime, targeting UN staff and local and international organizations.

The meeting was also attended by Hadramout’s Deputy Governor for Valley and Desert Affairs, Amer Al-Amery, the Deputy Governor for Technical Affairs, Amin Barzeq, the UNOPS Project Services Advisor, Khaldoun Salem Saleh, and several officials from the UN office.

This report highlights the ongoing collaboration between the Yemeni government and international bodies such as UNOPS to enhance developmental and infrastructural projects in Yemen, amidst the backdrop of challenges posed by the Houthi militias.
