Governor of Lahij Discusses Humanitarian Cooperation with UNICEF

On Tuesday, the Governor of Lahij, Major General Ahmed Turki, met with Sahr Hegazi, the Director of the UNICEF Office in Aden. The two officials explored ways to enhance their collaborative efforts and discussed the potential expansion of humanitarian and developmental programs in the province.

Acknowledging UNICEF’s Support

During the meeting, Governor Turki praised the significant humanitarian support UNICEF provides in various sectors, including health, education, water, agriculture, social affairs, and assistance for internally displaced persons and refugees. He expressed his hope for increased program intensity from the organization in the upcoming phase to address the economic and developmental challenges facing Lahij.

Commitment to Local Support

The governor emphasized that the local authority in Lahij will continue to offer full support to UNICEF. He assured that they would work to eliminate obstacles that could hinder the implementation of the organization’s plans aimed at improving public services.

UNICEF’s Priorities in Yemen

In response, Sahr Hegazi confirmed that Yemen, particularly Lahij, remains a priority for UNICEF in meeting developmental needs. She highlighted the organization’s commitment to addressing critical issues in health, water, and education, in line with UNICEF’s capabilities.

This meeting marks a significant step towards strengthening the partnership between local authorities and international organizations, aiming to improve the living conditions of the people in Lahij.
