King Salman Humanitarian Aid Center Signs Agreement to Support Livestock Farmers in Socotra

Today, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSHARC) signed a collaborative agreement with a civil society organization. This initiative aims to support small-scale livestock farmers and promote biogas production for household use in the Hadibo district of Socotra. This effort is part of the “Seed” initiative.

Enhancing Food Security and Sustainability

The agreement focuses on bolstering the agricultural sector and livestock farmers to enhance food security and sustainability in rural communities on Socotra Island. Specifically, the program will provide essential agricultural inputs to 150 needy families, along with three cows per family. Additionally, the initiative will supply and install biogas production units for the beneficiary families, along with training on their operation and maintenance.

Training and Veterinary Support

The agreement also includes training for 75 individuals in dairy product production. Furthermore, 20 individuals will receive training in basic veterinary care and livestock disease prevention. To enhance veterinary services, the initiative will equip a mobile veterinary unit, which will be handed over to the relevant government authority for operation and maintenance. This unit will benefit approximately 1,050 individuals from the most vulnerable groups.

Conclusion

This collaborative effort by KSHARC represents a significant step toward improving the livelihoods of small-scale farmers in Socotra. By focusing on sustainable practices and essential training, the initiative aims to foster resilience and self-sufficiency in local communities.
